Ledger Building

This event takes us to part of Canary Wharf we haven’t been to before.

The Ledger Building, 4 Hertsmere Road, E14 4AL – https://www.jdwetherspoon.com/pubs/all-pubs/england/london/the-ledger-building-docklands – so-called because it used to house the ledgers for the West India Docks, is one of Wetherspoon’s flagship conversions. It has an attractive beer garden, so that’s where we’ll be if the weather’s fine.

The Ledger Building is only 3-4 minutes walk from West India Quay Docklands Light Railway station. As you leave the station, look for two large cranes and, from there, it’s about 350 yards in a pretty much straight line, past a footbridge on your left and a row of restaurants and bars on your right. You’ll find the pub just beyond The Museum of London Docklands. Westferry and Poplar stations are also nearby but the walk is not quite so straightforward.

The nearest underground station is Canary Wharf, which is about 10 minutes walk away. Leave the station by the main exit (at the back of the train if you’re coming from Central London or the front of the train if you’re coming from East London), turn right, cross over a square with several clocks on poles (you’ll see what I mean when you get there) and climb the stairs on the far side. Turn left at the top of the stairs, walk past Canary Wharf DLR station and, when you reach Cabot Square, turn right. Walk over to the far side of the square and then over the footbridge to West India Quay, turn left and you’ll find the pub around 200 yards ahead of you, past a row of restaurants and bars on your right and just beyond the Museum Of London Docklands.

For anyone interested in the history of this area, there is a lot of information on Wetherspoon’s website – https://www.jdwetherspoon.com/pub-histories/england/london/the-ledger-building-docklands

The Ledger building is open until midnight and the plan is for this to be one of our occasional one-pub events but, as ever, we may need to do things differently on the night. Other pubs in the same area include The Henry Addington, 22-28 Mackenzie Walk, E14 4PH – https://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/restaurants/london/thehenryaddingtoncanarywharflondon – and The Merchant, 25-27 Fisherman’s Walk, E14 4DH – http://www.themerchantcanarywharf.co.uk – so we could end up one of those.
