Lancaster Gate to Marble Arch

Saturday, July 29, 2017 – 7:30 PM

The Victoria

10A Strathearn Place, London, W2 2NH

Map

This pub crawl takes us just to the north of Hyde Park, an area we haven’t been to before, starting at The Victoria, 10A Strathearn Place, W2 2NH  – http://www.victoriapaddington.co.uk. The nearest underground stations are Lancaster Gate and Paddington.

From Lancaster Gate, turn left out of the station and, keeping to the left of the cycle rack, cross over Westbourne Street into Stanhope Terrace. Walk up the right-hand side of Stanhope Terrace and you’ll find the pub at the end of the street where it meets Strathearn Place.

From Paddington, if you’ve travelled on the Bakerloo, District or Circle (via Victoria) lines, take the Praed Street exit at the front of the station, cross over the road and walk straight up London Street, over Sussex Gardens, into Sussex Place and you’ll find the pub at the end of the street. The exit for the Hammersmith & City and Circle (via King’s Cross) lines is at the back of the station so you’ll first have to make your way to the front.

The plan is to move on to the Duke of Kendal, 38 Connaught St., W2 2AF – https://dukeofkendal.co.uk – at around 8.45 and then The Carpenters Arms, 12 Seymour Place, W1H 7NE – https://www.thecarpentersarmspub.co.uk – at around 10.00.

All of the pubs have outside areas of one kind or another, so that’s where we’ll be if the weather’s fine.

Euston Pub Crawl

Saturday, June 10, 2017 – 7:30 PM

Euston Tap

190 Euston Road, London, NW1 2EF

Map

It’s only nine months or so since we visited this area but The Bree Louise is apparently under threat from HS2 so I didn’t want to leave it until it was too late before we came here again.

This time, I thought we’d start at the “other” Euston Tap in the East Lodge –https://whatpub.com/pubs/NLD/5933/euston-tap-london – which used to specialise in cider but now has a similar offering to the West Lodge (pictured above).

The nearest underground station is Euston – take one of the exits for Euston Road/Euston Square Station on to the Colonnade, then head down the right-hand side of Pret A Manger, past a building called “The Podium” and you’ll find the pub in the left-hand gatehouse, beyond the bus station but just before you get to Euston Road. It’s actually in Euston Grove, but only the most detailed maps will show that.

The plan is to move on to The Bree Louise, 69 Cobourg St., NW1 2HH – http://www.thebreelouise.com/ – at around 8.45 and then the Exmouth Arms, 1 Starcross St., NW1 2HR – http://www.publove.co.uk/exmouth-arms-euston – at around 10.00.

Card carrying CAMRA members get a discount of 50p a pint at The Bree Louise.

All of the pubs have outside areas, so that’s where we’ll be if the weather’s fine.

Holborn Pub Crawl

Saturday, May 27, 2017 – 7:30 PM

Holborn Whippet

25-29 Sicilian Ave, London, WC1A 2QH

Map

The Holborn Whippet is just a short walk from Holborn underground station (Piccadilly and Central lines). Head for Metro Bank on the opposite corner of the crossroads, walk up Southampton Row for about 100 yards and then turn left into Sicilian Avenue. You’ll find the pub right at the end – there’s a large outside area, so that’s where we’ll be if the weather’s fine.

The plan is to move on to The Old Red Lion, 72 High Holborn, WC1V 6LS – https://whatpub.com/pubs/NLD/6318/old-red-lion-london – at around 8.45 and then the The Ship Tavern, 12 Gate Street, WC2A 3HP – http://www.theshiptavern.co.uk – at around 10.00.

We’ve been to The Old Red Lion quite recently, but it was the third pub that time and, bearing in mind that it has only just started opening on a Saturday night and we were given a very warm welcome, I thought it was worth going back sooner rather than later and making it the main feature this time.

Leaving the station, turn left if you’ve arrived by underground or right if you’ve arrived on the Thameslink service, then walk along Cowcross Street until it bears to the right and you’ll find the pub on the right-hand side.

The plan is to move on to the Fox & Anchor, 115 Charterhouse Street, EC1M 6AA – http://www.foxandanchor.com – at around 8.45 and then the Old Red Cow, 71/72 Long Lane, EC1A 9EJ –http://theoldredcow.com – at around 10.00.
